ORANGE is the New Red
Move over red, there is a new color in town. From creamy corals to cool clementines, orange lippies are popping up in all types and shades. While the red lip will forever be a classic, orange is giving a new breath of life to an otherwise overplayed lipstick color.I tried out four different orange-shaded lip colors ranging from matte to high-shine to see if the orange lip could really replace such a classic. All I have to say is… It was nice knowing you, Red.
Kat Von D totally delivers in this matte, cream lipstick. The orange gives a blast of bright color, perfect for turning heads. Bonus: The creamy texture made my lips feel soft while the long-wear held up all through dinner and well into the night.
If a “in-your-face” orange isn’t for you then a subdued coral might just be your cup of tea. You’ll only need to put this Sephora lip stain on once, no reapplying necessary. The pink undertones in this lippie cools down the orange for a fun and cute look!
Looking for a deeper shade? Check out this burnt orange, available in Sephora’s luster matte collection. While I wasn’t a huge fan of this particular line, I enjoyed the shimmery undertones and the opaque color. Overall, however, this was my least favorite. I found the color never quite set and I was constantly worried about it smudging and smearing all over my face. Bottom Line? Pass.
Go all-out shine in L’oreal’s Orange Tempo. Apply it like a lip gloss but love it like a lip stain. While I usually hate high-shine lip colors, I was pleasantly surprised by the rich, redish orange color and easy application. At a drug store price, it’s a win.
